Contribute supports Tennis Flanders during the tennis and padel season with a scalable cloud solution
Tennis and Padel Vlaanderen, the Flemish federation for tennis and padel clubs, was looking for a system that could adapt both financially and technologically to the seasonal demands of tennis and padel. They needed a solution that could seamlessly handle peak online traffic while remaining cost-effective, even during off-peak periods. Contribute, specialized in building tailored, future-proof solutions based on Oracle technology, stepped in to help. The solution? A flexible and scalable environment. How? By transitioning the on-premise database to the Oracle Cloud—flexible and efficient.
Tennis and Padel Vlaanderen provides tennis and padel clubs with an online platform offering services such as court reservations, member management, club administration, and the organization of tournaments and club matches. Clubs that join don’t have to reinvent the wheel but become part of a well-structured and smoothly running ecosystem.
The challenge of peak load management
Tennis is a seasonal sport, and with the official opening of courts in April after winter maintenance, traffic to the Tennis and Padel Vlaanderen website surges dramatically. Website clicks can spike from 15 per second to 200 or even 300.
The Tennis and Padel Vlaanderen database was previously hosted on-premise. With a growing number of members due to the increasing popularity of padel, significant investments in additional hardware licenses would have been required to handle peak loads during the summer season. Therefore, Tennis and Padel Vlaanderen sought a more cost-effective and powerful system that could scale as needed.

Contribute provided the solution: migration to the scalable Oracle Cloud
Droppar, an Oracle Cloud Managed Service Provider within Contribute, delivered the answer: transitioning everything ‘customer-facing’ from on-premise to the cloud. This involved migrating the entire infrastructure surrounding the database used by clubs and members, including the website and mobile applications. An added benefit? Software updates would seamlessly be included in the transition.

Scalability and cost savings are key for Tennis Vlaanderen
In the project with Tennis and Padel Vlaanderen, choosing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure was a logical step. Olivier Maurice, Cloud Solution Architect at Contribute and founder of Droppar, a Cloud Managed Service Provider within Contribute, explains: “Scalability is a defining feature of a cloud environment. Since Tennis Vlaanderen was already extensively using Oracle services such as a databases, running on an Oracle Cloud environment is highly efficient. The storage capacity is larger, and the performance exceeds competitors like AWS (Amazon Web Services). Plus, there are no additional costs from expensive licenses due to working with a different cloud provider that doesn’t align well with your existing software. A no-brainer, really.”
The major advantage for Tennis and Padel Flanders is improved performance and scalability. An additional benefit is a cost structure that adapts to peaks and troughs in traffic.
24/7 monitoring by Contribute
Tennis and Padel Flanders has also gained a much more stable platform. We have learned a great deal from this case and have extracted best practices for other clients. For instance, one moment traffic can be low, and then suddenly skyrocket. How do you handle such peaks?
“We completely relieve clients like Tennis and Padel Flanders of any operational concerns. They don’t want to worry about infrastructure or CPU overload. That’s why we provide 24/7 monitoring. We receive notifications whenever a peak occurs. During the high season, system load can increase until 10:00 PM—there may be incidents or releases that need attention. These issues must be resolved before 7:00 AM, as traffic starts rising again when people sit down for breakfast,” explains Olivier.
Challenges
Olivier Maurice doesn’t deny that there were challenges along the way: “We encountered some issues with a database that wasn’t cooperating as expected. Queries behaved differently compared to the old database. Searches that normally took 0.5 seconds suddenly took 10 seconds. We had to fine-tune the new version to get it running efficiently.”
At Contribute, we are not just a number. We receive the attention we need, and they are always willing to think along with us. Proactive, with great follow-up. We are very satisfied with their approach and the collaboration.
Sacha van Itterbeeck, IT manager at Tennis Vlaanderen, can only confirm the dedication of Contribute.
